Queenstown 2 Day Itinerary: Make the Most of a Weekend
Two days is tight but enough for the highlights — here's the plan
Two days in Queenstown is a popular option for domestic visitors doing a long weekend and international visitors with a packed NZ itinerary. It's enough to get the core experience if you plan it right.
Day 1: Adventure Day
Morning: Shotover Jet (9am) Book the earliest available time. 25 minutes of jet boating through Shotover Canyon at 85km/h. Shuttle from town included. Back in town by 11am.
Price: $159 adult
Late Morning: Skyline Gondola + Luge Ride the gondola to Bob's Peak for the panoramic view. Do 3 luge rides — they're fast, fun, and the views are extraordinary. Allow 2 hours.
Price: $78 (gondola + 3 luges)
Lunch: Steamer Wharf Fishbone for seafood, or grab something quick from the food trucks. Eat outside — the waterfront is beautiful.
Afternoon: Choose Your Adventure
Option A — Bungy: Kawarau Bridge Bungy ($205) — the original, iconic, 25 minutes from town.
Option B — Arrowtown: Drive 20 minutes to the gold rush town. Walk the Chinese Settlement, browse Buckingham Street, coffee at Provisions. Free.
Option C — Wine: Gibbston Valley wine tour (from $120, half day) — world-class Pinot Noir 25 minutes from town.
Evening: Dinner + Bars Rata for a proper dinner, or Fergburger for the legendary Queenstown burger. Then Atlas Beer Café on the waterfront for evening drinks.

Day 2: Scenic Day
Option A: Milford Sound (Full Day) If you haven't done Milford Sound, this is the day. Coach departs 7am, returns 8pm. It's a long day but utterly worth it. $200–$260 per person.
Option B: Glenorchy + Lake Day
Morning: Drive to Glenorchy (45 min) via the spectacular lakeside road. Walk to the lagoon. Coffee at the Glenorchy Café.
Afternoon: Drive back via Bob's Cove (short lakeside walk). Swim at Frankton Beach if the weather's warm. Or walk the Queenstown Gardens.
Late Afternoon: TSS Earnslaw cruise on Lake Wakatipu (from $99) — a perfect way to end a Queenstown trip.
